The Chemistry Behind the Ultimate Natural High

Few experiences in life can compare with the feeling of being newly in love. In that juicy, adrenaline-laden stage of the relationship, the mere thought of your new-found lover creates feelings so intense and passionate that it’s nearly impossible to concentrate on anything else. Seemingly every minute of the day is preoccupied with fantasies and daydreams about your loved one and your desire to be near him or her is all-consuming. Sensations are heightened. Life seems surreal. Every cell feels alive and your spirit’s vibration is lifted to a higher frequency. In other words, you’re buzzed!

In fact, you are Continue Reading

Madison has a rich and deep music performance history. The Steve Miller Band, Garbage, The Original Funky Drummer Clyde Stubblefield, even Otis Redding’s death has a Madison tie. One of the biggest strengths that Madison also offers is a history of great recording studios. 608 recently sat down with Jake Johnson and Bill Maynard from Paradyme Productions (www.paradymeproductions. com), Mark Whitcomb from DNA Studios (www.dnamusiclabs. com) and Mike Zirkel and Beau Sorenson from Smart Studios (www.smartgeeks.com) to get a look at what the studios are currently working on as well as their thoughts on the continuing emergence of Madison Hip-Hop as a fixture Continue Reading

Ice Fishing. It’s not something most Hip-Hop heads would put on top of their street cred list. However, after venturing out on Lake Monona one chilly Friday morning, I learned that braving the elements to provide a meal for your family is about as gangster as it gets.

This was actually going on the middle of a lake with no flotation devices and setting up shop for a few hours. This is everyday life for some people.

“If Wisconsin was a province,” boasts rapper Jerome “Romey” Hunt, “I would be the Rap Prime Minister of it.”

As Romey shows me around his Soundcheck Studios on the lower level of the Genesis Enterprise Center in Madison, the 6’7” rapper is relaxed, funny, focused, introspective and self-assured. But his prime minister boast begs for a follow-up question: Do you have to have a tremendous ego to be a good rapper?

“I don’t have a big ego, but I do have a lot of confidence,” Romey says. “When your head gets too big, it makes people not want to work for you and not want to root for you. But with that being said, you do have to have a certain swagger and a certain confidence to be a good rapper.”

Having had to face an enormous amount of adversity in his Continue Reading
